Try
craigslist.org
in your area. Most of the time you can find parts or complete Karts pretty cheap. Just don't try to buy the first one you see unless you know it's a good deal.

Race 2: A Learning Experience

Saturday, May 1st saw the second club race of the season at the Toronto Association of Karters (TRAK) for JP Hutchinson who went into the weekend with a lot of confidence from his third place finish in his last race. This would be an important event for two reasons. One was the fact that it was a combined race with the members of the Mosport International Karting Association (MIKA) and secondly, it was the warm up event for the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship (ECKC) this coming weekend.

The day began with cloudy and dry skies but many of the racers were expecting rain during the day, but the real question was when and how much. In racing they say that rain is the great equalizer since some racers, while great in dry conditions, don’t do well in wet conditions and visa versa. While the day as a whole would prove to be a learning experience, with wet conditions, JP would gain a much needed opportunity to improve his driving skills in the wet.

Unfortunately, for Team JP, the day did not start off on a good note.В  Firstly, while warming up the engine prior to his practice session, it was noted that the engine did not sound great. Furthermore, it was discovered minutes before first practice that the exhaust bracket was cracked meaning that it would likely come loose during practice and if not, certainly during the day. With not enough time to fix either problem, JP went out for practice and while the exhaust held out, he only managed to set the fourth fastest time.Immediately after practice, the sky opened up and the rains came down!

During the break, the exhaust was replaced but we were still unable to resolve the engine problem while setting up the kart for a wet qualifying session. In qualifying JP manged to improve on his last qualifying effort in the rain when he qualified last, this time qualifying 10th out of 14 – a huge step for a young kid who is still coming to grips with racing in the rain. Unfortunately, while doing so he spun out on his second last lap and could not get the engine re-started.В  Nevertheless, he was quite proud of himself. Given his abilities to race from the back and move up the field, starting from this position is never a worry for JP.
